Murders down by 9% thus far in 2014 according to JCF! [Jamaica]

Murders and all other categories of serious crimes continued a downward trend for the first four months of this year.

Statistics compiled by the Jamaica Constabulary Force revealed that there were 332 reported murders island-wide up to last weekend.

According to the data, there are 34 fewer murders or a 9%  decline when compared with the corresponding period last year.
It also translates to an average of just under three murders per day.

The data also shows that shootings fell by 2%; robberies declined by 22%; break-ins fell 4%; rapes dropped by 17% while larceny declined 27%.

According to the police force statistics,  there were 42 police killings between January and the first of April, down from the 79 recorded over the same period last year.

A breakdown of the statistics shows that the decline in murders comes despite the fact that 8 of the 19 police divisions island-wide reported increases ranging from 8%  across Kingston Western to a 100% increase in Portland.
