Tom Tavares-Finson, the lead attorney for dancehall star Vybz Kartel, made his closing remarks in the drawn out murder trial today. (Feb 18 2014)
The veteran lawyer spoke directly to the 11-member jury telling them that the prosecution case is weak, naked and exposed.
Tavares-Finson says the case is nothing short of a conspiracy to convict his client for a crime he did not commit. He called the prosecution incompetent and it’s witnesses liars. The lawyer says that under cross-examination the prosecution witnesses, who sworn to tell the truth, were exposed, leaving their case naked.
He also told the jury that the prosecution left them to make judgement on a case that is fill with dishonesty and incompetency.
Tom Tavares-Finson also complained this morning in court that the defense was served overnight with documents containing statements from prosecution handwriting experts George Dixon and William Smiley. He said the defense did not know about one of the experts and that is a breach of the protocol of disclosure and prosecutorial misconduct.
Tavares-Finson asked the judge to reprimand the prosecution. Justice Lennox Campbell is expected to make a ruling today.
The judge will also be giving the jury instructions for deliberation before sending them off behind closed doors to come up with a verdict.
